A paper by Professor Toshiaki Iizuka and co-authors analyzing the effects of health guidance intervention on metabolic syndrome screening in Japan was published in JAMA Internal Medicine. While the assignment to the health guidance reduced waist circumference and weight, the effect was limited (-0.4%). In addition, they find no evidence that cardiovascular risk factors improve. Further evidence-based consideration is needed to make the health screening more cost-effective.
