{"id":12916,"date":"2018-02-20T09:33:19","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T00:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pp.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/?p=12916"},"modified":"2018-02-20T09:33:19","modified_gmt":"2018-02-20T00:33:19","slug":"2018-02-20-12916","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/graspp.neopa.jp\/en\/events\/2018-02-20-12916\/","title":{"rendered":"LKY-GraSPP Day 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u3010<span lang=\"EN-US\">Call for Participants<\/span>\u3011<span lang=\"EN-US\">LKY-GraSPP Day 2018<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The 8th LKY-GraSPP Day organized by Graduate School of Public Policy, the University of Tokyo, which will be held on March 2, 2018, at Hongo Campus of the University of Tokyo is calling for participants now! <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Event Information<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">LKY-GraSPP Day is an annual conference,\u00a0which\u00a0has been held successfully for the past 7 years,\u00a0hosted at the Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Tokyo to discuss the hottest public policy topics of Japan with the participants from both Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (around 35 students and professors from LKYSPP will join\u00a0this year) and Graduate School of Public Policy, the University of Tokyo. It is also an important\u00a0part of the LKYSPP Japan Study Trip 2018 and the LKY-GraSPP Day is one of the conclusion part of the trip. <b><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Event Format<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Brief lectures\/speeches\/comments by professors of public policy<\/span><\/li>\n<li align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Presentations by LKYSPP students<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Discussions among LKYSPP students and students from Japanese Universities<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Date<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">March 2, 2018 (Fri) 14:00-17:30<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Dinner with Japanese politicians is planned after the event as well <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Venue<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">SMBC Hall, 4F International Research Building (IAR), Hongo Campus, the University of Tokyo<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/campusmap\/cam01_01_07_j.html\">http:\/\/www.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/campusmap\/cam01_01_07_j.html<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Themes<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Participants will be asked to choose one topic of their interest from the below three themes. LKYSPP Students will give presentations on these topics and participants from Japanese Universities are expected to give comments and ideas for interactive discussions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Security issues: <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">The geopolitical situation of East Asia is becoming more and more complicated. While Japan has successfully developed despite its geopolitical complexity, it is now damaging the country. Participants are expected to analyze the geopolitical situation and provide policy solutions. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Industrial Policy: <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">With long-continuing depression, Japanese government has been trying to revitalize its economy through various means, including industrial policy. On this topic, participants are expected to provide policy solutions to address this issue. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Culture and city planning: <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">One of the key drivers for economic revitalization in Japan, especially in rural areas, is tourism. More and more individuals are interested in traveling to Japan, but not all cities have been benefiting. Participants will provide recommendations on how Japan can utilize tourism for economic revitalization.
