A meeting with <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mr. Malaithong Kommasith, Deputy Minister at Prime Minister\u2019s Office, focused on policy priorities for the Lao government. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">A conversation with Mrs.\u00a0Vathana\u00a0Dalaloy, Deputy Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR, clarified implications of the exchange rate regime and of the banking sector for fiscal stabilization. A dialogue at <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the National Institute for Economic Research (NIER) headed by Dr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, NIER President and the former\u00a0Prime Minister, helped prepare a better coordination plan among key stakeholders for effective policy implementation<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">As one of the bilateral initiatives between the governments of Japan and Lao PDR, <\/span><i><span lang=\"EN-US\">Joint Policy Research and Dialogue Program for Fiscal Stabilization in Lao PDR<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\"> was launched in March 2018. The shared recognition of fiscal <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">stabilization as a vital foundation for<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> sustainable development led to the launch of the Program. F<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">our working groups are in place under the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Program to cover respective issues with the implications for fiscal stabilization.
