Since its inception, APEC has engaged in a wide range of activities \u2013 including trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, regional economic integration, and the implementation of economic and technical cooperation projects \u2013 through close collaboration between government, business, and academia across its 21 member economies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">As outlined below, Mr. Eduardo Pedrosa, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat, will deliver a lecture and engage in an interactive Q&amp;A session with participants with the aim of deepening understanding of APEC&#8217;s role and Japan\u2019s expected role in fostering sustainable growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region as well as the significance of youth engagement in APEC activities. His appointment was formally welcomed at the 35<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0APEC Ministerial Meeting in Lima, Peru on 14 November 2024. Prior to his appointment at APEC, he was the Secretary General of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), one of the three official observers of APEC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mr. Pedrosa is an expert on regional economic cooperation working on diverse range of issues including trade, finance, digitalization, climate change and structural reform. Over the past 20 years, he has consulted for governments and businesses across the Asia-Pacific.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">He was the coordinator of PECC\u2019s State of the Region report which provides an independent assessment of the prospects and risks to regional economic as well as priorities for APEC. Mr Pedrosa is a thought leader on economic affairs, authoring and editing a wide variety of articles and books including\u00a0<i>Trade and Connectivity in the Post-COVID-19 World\u00a0<\/i>(with Pascal Lamy, World Economic Forum 2020);\u00a0<i>Globalization, Inequality and the Rise of Protectionism\u00a0<\/i>(Duke, Dialogue Review, 2015)<i>;<\/i>\u00a0<i>Towards an ASEAN Economic Community: Matching the Hardware with the Operating System<\/i>\u00a0(Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, 2009<i>).\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>An APEC Trade Agenda: The Political Economy of a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific\u00a0<\/i>(Institute of Southeast Asian Studies 2007)<i>\u00a0<\/i>with Charles Morrison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mr. Pedrosa is also a member of the Advisory Board of the World Economic Forum\u2019s Global Risk Report.
