Invitation to the GraSPP Alumni & Students Day 2026:
Dear UTokyo GraSPP alumni, students, faculty and staff members,
Hope this message finds you well in the early days of autumn.
We would like to invite you to the Homecoming Day (GraSPP Alumni & Students Day), scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, 17 October.
To begin the program, Professor Masaki Taniguchi, current GraSPP Dean, will deliver a lecture entitled “Reiwa’s political structure.” Drawing on his expertise in contemporary Japanese politics and electoral studies, Prof. Taniguchi will examine the forces shaping Japanese politics today, with a focus on changes in public opinion, political parties, and elections. Drawing on his longstanding research on politicians and voters, as well as his extensive commentary in the media, including The Asahi Shimbun, he will explore the transformation of Japanese party politics, the evolving relationship between politicians and voters, and the influence of public opinion on elections and political parties. The lecture offers an opportunity to consider the dynamics of contemporary Japanese politics from a broader structural perspective. Following the lecture, we invite you to join us for a reception, where you can enjoy food and drinks and reconnect with fellow alumni, students, faculty, and staff.
We are also continuing to seek volunteers who would be willing to contribute to the ongoing activities of the alumni association and help make it a more vibrant and sustainable community. If you are interested in supporting the planning or operation of alumni events, or would simply like to become more involved in alumni activities, we would greatly appreciate your participation and support, to whatever extent you are able. GraSPP will continue to work closely with you and provide support to help make the alumni network an engaging and meaningful place for connection and exchange.
